The Rose here took on board the shipwrecked crp,w of the Sydney whalin" schooner Venture, consisting of 29 hands, the vessel having come to grief on a reef surrounding the Island. The Rose next proceeded to New Britain and the adjacent island; She reports the state of affairs at the Former place to be dangerous to the traders, who consist of abottt a score, mostly German trading for Goddefroy Brothers. All the traders take the precaution to carry arms, ■ At Duke of York Island, the natives are quiet artdjin offensive. Froiti here the missionary influence radiates?; The wife and family of the Rev. G. BroWn are all in good health’, and the mission is prospering.
