KUMARA VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.
A special meeting of the Kuraara Volunteer Fire Brigade was held at the Adelphi Hotel last evening. Present; Capt. Powell (in the chair), and nearly every member of the Brigade, active and honorary. The Chairman explained that the special meeting had been called to consider what steps should be taken in the present unpleasant position in which tlie Brigade a were situated, through the engine and appliances having been
seized for distress for rent due on account of the engine house, and pointed out that in case of fire the services of the Brigade would be to a certain extent paralysed through this action on the part of one of their creditors.
The Secretary reported having telegraphed the several Insurance Companies re seizure of plant, to which no reply had been received. After a long discussion, in which the non-fulfilment of the promise given by the various Insurance Companies was most strongly condemned as, had the amount been forwarded, the present unsatisfactory state of things would never have occurred—it was resolved “ That the night watchman continue his duties until further notice; and that this meeting stand adjourned till Monday evening, to see if the Insurance Companies will forward the promised amount of £25 ; and to consider the advisability of disbanding the Brigade.”
