THE COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS.
. Although but little interest was shown in the Borough dining yesterday in any particular candidate,. such however was not the case at Dill man's Town, where during the afternoon the excitement gradually increased until it reached its culminating point just before the of the poll. Long were the odds and. many the " certainties" indulged in by the friends of the various.aspirants ; and when the poll closed, a large and good-humoured crowd anxiously awaited the declaration. At 15 minutes past 7 o'clock, the Returning Officer (A. F. Etheridge, Esq., announced the namhers polled by the various candidates, the favourite evidently being in the position expected by his supporters, judging from the hearty cheers with which his numbers were received. As there were nearly 500 votes polled the greatest satisfaction was expressed at the prompitude displayed by the Returning Officer in making up the. state of the poll in a little over an hour. In the meantime the |>oll had been declared at the other booth, in the Court House, by P. A. F. Birch, Esq., Deputy Returning Officer, the numbers polled there also placing the sara»> eandidate at the head as in Dillnian's Town. The following returns are to hand, there being one from Fux's to come in which will not materially affect the position of the candidate!*:—
