The Channel squadron has sailed for Cyprus.

The Horae Minister, in replying to a question in the House of Commons, said that in consequence of Russia retaining Baton m, a defensive treaty of alliance had been concluded between England and Turkey, and the Porte ceded Cyprus to England, who was to occupy it forthwith Major-General Sir Garnet J. Wolseley, G.C.M.G., has been appointed to administer affairs in the island.

Berlin, July 9. Prince Gortschakoff, has no objection to transfer Cyprus to England. A great part of the Continental Press are opposed to it.
