Melbourne, May 17. The Cable Conference meeting is 'expected to close to-morrow. The proceedings will be published early. It is anticipated that a modification of Col. Glover's offer will be agreed to.
May 19. The Cable Conference is concluded. The result includes Glover's proposal of duplication from Singapore to Port Darwin ; also a second cable between Pcnang and Singapore. The subsidy to be £32,000 annually, paid rateably by the Colonies according to population. Press messages are to be reduced one-fourth, and Government messages one-half. New Zealand and Tasmania get no advantage from the reduced cable rates. No thin» was done concerning the re-duplication of the land line to Port Darwin. Tasmania and Queensland are dissatisfied with the arrangements. Sydney. May 18. The Governor has received a despatch from the Secretary of State stating that England has no intention of proposing to Parliament the annexation of the New Hebrides.
The Governor prorogues Parliament on Tuesday.

St. Petersburg, May 12. The Russian Ambassador at London remains here until next week, to receive the Emperor's decision. On his return, he will call at Berlin and open with London negotiations of the utmost importance. He has brought no written proposals, but ouly explains the views of the British Government.
May 14. A semi-official note published here advocates the following as a solution for preserving the vitality of Turkey _:— Administrative authority of the Christian population as tributary to Porte, and giving Bosnia to Austria.
Berlin, May 12. No clue has yet been disc >vered as to the cause of the attempted assassination of the Emperor by a socialist, at Leipzic.
London, May 15. The Lancashire riots c mtinues. The military force has been siren-theued, but no collision has taken place yet. . May 16. JN egotiations are proceeding between the Blackburn and other operatives. Russians agents are negotiating purchases of ships in. the United States, suitable for privateers.
