BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Thursday, Mat 16,

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council, was held last evening at the Town Hall. Present: Messrs Anchor, Hannan, Campbell, Peam, Cornfoot, OHara, George, and Hanna. In the absence of the Mayor, Cr. Ancher was voted to the chair.

The minutes of the previous meeting, as also the .-minutes of the adjourned special meeting, re Burgess 801 l were read and confirmed.

The outward correspondence was read and approved of, the inward being read and received.

Moved by Cr. George, seconded by Or. Hanna: “ That the question of altering the Bye-Laws stand ovbr until the next monthly meeting.—Carried. Moved by Cr. Ancher, seconded by Cr. Hanna : “ That the Fire Brigade be allowed the use of the Hall for a banquet, as requested on the condition that they leave it in clean and good order,”—Carried.

Moved by Cr. Hannan, seconded by Cr. Cornfoot; “ That the consideration of the letter asking for a subsidy by the Fire Brigade, be held over for a month.”—Carried.

Cr Hanna presented a petition from the inhabitants of Seddon street, praying that the footpaths be made in front of their houses. The petition was received.

The minutes of the meeting of Reserves Committee, held.yesterday afternoon, was read and received.

It was resolved that 100 acres of land be applied for as a reserve, for a recreation ground, for the use and enjoyment of the inhabitants of the Borough, and also that the Mayor be requested to examine the plans in the Lands Office, Hokitika, with a view of making a selection of 2000 acres, as a Reserve for the endowment of the Borough, The report of the Finance Committee was read and received.

Accounts to the amount of £ll4 7s 3d were passed for payment. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Anchor, seconded by Cr. Hanna: “ That at the next ordinary meeting the Council do make a general rate of one shilling in the pound, for one year, ending on the 31st day of March, 1879 ; and payable in one sum on the 16th day of June, 1878.” The Council then adjourned.
