MINING REPORT.

[From our Special Mining Reporter.]

A good many of the miners on the other side of the river are in o-reat hopes of increasing their returas when the Erin go-bragh water-race is iiuished. which it will be before long. Rich finds were common enough in that locality some years ago, and if the main bottom were sought where it had been confined, it is uot improbable that some rich ground may yet be fouud." A party lately on Haye'a'Terrace got, a pound weight of* a patch, at a greater depth than is generally-worked. On Tuesday morning there was a littlt stir, on the shallow ground uext Minnilnnett and party, to the westward of Larrikin Terrace, as a shaft was bottomed the day previous and got a fair prospect, consequently the tape line was brought into use next morning. I hear to-day that their prospects are looking very well, and it only requires persev? erar.ce to find any amount ot payable ground in that flat.

The lead that runs along beneath the terrace that divides Larrikin's from Dill man Town bids fair to be che meat productive on the Kumara. Morgan's party lately had 60oz from their paddock, and there are a few othe s prettv rich—rich at least for this district. There have been several attempts made to trace this run of gold towards Blake's saw-mil),.but without anytime beinc got. All the ground ahead of Grey and party's claim has been abandoned again with the exception of that held by°one party, and they are nearly bottomed, close up on Grey's bouudary. It is not

likely that it will be picked up for any distance at one time, as the gold does not run in a continuous Hue like beach leads, and a bend or duffer bar coming in may throw parties a long way out of their reckoning. Near the end of the track Mrs Gibbons has had her place extended and improved into what may be termed a respectable-looking hotel; and all along the face of the terrace weatherboard huts are being erected superior to the first huts that were erected in that locality.

On Dunedin Flat the late flooding out has been injurious to a few of the claim holders, and it is said that what is known as the Dunedin party are about to construct a flood race for themselves. If the Govern ra ent do not push ahead their flood race the result will be that a number of parties will bring in races for their own convenience, and those parties who have not ground that will warrant them to go to that expenditure will be left out in the cold. There will consequently be a deal of unnecessary labor and money thrown away, and at best only a few will be benefltted.
