London, April 12. Germany is attempting mediation through Ministers accredited to Berlin. The murder of the Earl of Leitrim was debated in both Houses. A disorderly scene occurred iu the Commons in which several Irish members were concerned. Reporters were excluded for three hours owing to aspersions on his Lordship’s private character. Sydney, April 15. A motion has been tabled in the Assembly for the release from Parramatta Lunatic Asylum of a lunatic, supposed to be Arthur Orton.
Typhus fever is raging in several parts of the country.
LATEST UNPUBLISHED, THE KAFFIR WAR. THE SCOTTISH-PAPAL HIERARCHY. FIGHTING IN THE TRANSVAAL. RUSSIAN DEMANDS ON TURKEY. London, April 14. Later telegrams from the Cape state that the situation in the Transvaal is serious. There was rioting, in Glasgow on Saturday. The .Papal-allocution in reference to the new hiei’archy was publicly burnt. The rioting was renewed on Sunday, and several persons were injured. Twenty arrests were mado. April 15. There has been desperate fighting in the Transvaal and the situation is serious. Constantinople, April 14. The Russians require the Turks to Shumla and Varna without delay. The Servian army is being disbanded.
