At half-past five this morning, a fire broke out at Mrs Mason's lodging house. in Willis-street- The flames got a good hold inside, before the fire waa discovered. Some of the lodgers had great difficulty in escaping. Two who slept in the upper part had to drop from a win low on to an out-house. Another lodger was much cut and burned in making his escape. All of them lost, their clothes, and several their last weeks wages. The landlady had about. £6O cash in a purse under her matrass,; which was also lost. The Fire Brigade confined the fire to that house. The building was insured for £GOO in the South British; the furniture £GOO in the Victoria, and £6OO in the NatiaigL TJlesheim, March 23. The own correspondent of the Express at Havelock, wires this morning, that considerable excitement is manifested at Haveiock respecting the opening of a new terrace at the Wakamarina. Father Coleman the Roman Catholic pastor of the district has handed the following telegrams to the Evening Mail, in which journal they appear. Oamartt, March 21. Arrived, yesterday, the barqtie Marie, with 84 Chiuese, and a large generalcargo, from Hong Kong. The ship Western Monarch, also arrived from London ; 81 days passage; she brings 20 passengers and 2000 tons cargo. On February 25th, when rounding tho Cape of Good Hope, lat. 40, she encountered a strong N. W. gale, at 1 a.m., shortened sail, and while doing so Alfred Hammerton an apprentice fell from aloft aud was drowned. Christchurch, March 25.
