VOLUNTEER DISTRICT PRIZE FIRING.

The firing for the Second Set took place on the Kumara Rifle range on Saturday, under Lieut. Spence. The full scores are subjoined :

| This being the final firing of the Second iaec, the prize winners are as follow: Ist prize, £4, Private Rutledge, Grey, mouth, with a total score at the three ranges of 70 2nd prize, £2, Private A. North’ Greymouth gg 3rd prize, £1 10s., Private Levy, Hokitika 04 4th prize, £l, Private A. Oliver, Hokitika sth prize, 10s., Private C. Griffiths, Kanieri 64 As Private Harvey, of the Kumara Contingent, made the same number of points in the aggregate as Griffiths, the prize is awarded, in the event of a tie, to the highest scorer at the longest range. Griffiths at 500 yards having made 21, and Harvey 18, the Kanieri man is consequently the winner. Although none of our local men were fortunate in securing a prize in this set, the interest shown in the firing is .proved by the number that competed, there being 16, as against 13 in Greymouth, and 10 in Hokitika.
