Wellington, January 21. The Argus believes that the present Government is desirous of doing away with the mixed authority which prevails in the administration of this port, by which the City Council controls the wharf and the General Government the harbor. They would be in favor of putting both under the direction of a properly constituted Harbor Board, and are prepared to support an adequate endowment for the same. January 23. Sir George Grey and Mr Sheehan proceed to Wairarapa to-morrow morning. The Ministerial party will remain in Greytown on Thursday, going to Masrenon next day and returning to Wellington on Saturday. At the Good Templars meeting last uight, presided over by the Yen. Archdeacon Stock, he said there was less drunkenness in Wellington now than when he came 22 years ago. He thought drunkards ought to bo sent to gaol without the option of a fine. The police here state that during last year there were 87 prisoners for miscellaneous offences fewer than in 1876. The directors of the Colonial Bank resolved to recommend the proprietors at the meeting on the 30th inst, to declare a dividend of six per cent per annum, and-add £4OO to the reserve fund which will then amount to £16,000, and cany £2lll undivided profits to next half-year. Balclutha. January 22. The new railway bridge was tested by Mr Oarruthers, Mr Blair, the District Engineer, and assistant engineers. Three locomotives and six loaded coal trucks were used. Tiie weight was 100 tons. Each span was tested, carefnlly, the deflection being froth flireeeights to three-quarters of an inch. to its original 1eve1.... After each span, was tested the train was run across at the rate of 10 miles an hoar when the deflection was only three-eights of an inch. The tests are considered very satisfactory, and show that the work has been faithfully carried out. The bridge consists of seven spans, of 120 feet each, and one of 30 feet across the road at the end of the bridge. Greymouth, January 23. At the KM. (j/ourt yesterday Frederick Israel Davis, of Hatter's Terrace, Nelson Creek, was charged on the information of J. T, Buchanan, manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Limited, with embezzlement, he being a trustee of the bank. After hearing evidence, Mr Re veil adjourned the case until to-day, when he dismissed it on a Jaw point raised by Mr Perkins, that no information could be laid against a trustee without the sanction of the Attorney-General.

Mr Sharp M.H.B. addressed a full meeting of the electors, last night Having reviewed the events of the session, he said he had opposed, the pre-, sent Ministry because Sir George Grey' was an avowed separationiat, and .Mr. Macandrew a staunch supporter pf the Laud compact; but when Sir George Gi-ey announced himself in favor of the unity of the colony and the colonialising of the Land Fund he gaye them his support, and should continue to do' so as long as he approved of their measures: A vote of confidence in Mr Sharp was unanimously agreed to. Christchurch, January 24. The Canterbury Fifteen in their first innings were all out for -135. The Australian Eleven in their second innings have six wickets down to-day for 127 runs. The match will be finished to-day.
