Dunbdin, September 15.

A serious affair has occurred at Sparrow and Co.'a foundry, Whereby a boy named Valentine Morton, aged 15 years, was severely wounded. He was engaged heating rivets, when one of his mates, Stewart Newton, aged 13 years, interfered, and was told to mind his own business. A quarrel arose. Newton, after having fallen on his back, went away, but returned in three or four minutes afterwards, saying to Morton, " I will make you pay for the way you pushed me a little while ago." ,After this he picked up a piece of iron, and was about to throw it at Morton, when the latter rushed upon him, and knocked the iron out of his hand. They had another struggle, when Newton commenced to savagely use his pocketknife, with which he stabbed Morton in two places, the left leg and the left side. The knife was taken from Newton, and Morton was removed to the Hospital. Dr Tigue expressed the belief that the cut on Morton's side was of a very serious character, the knife having entered his body, two inches, in an upward direction between two of his ribs. Newton has been apprehended on a warrant.
