MINING REPORT.
During the past week there has been some little excitement on the north side of the liver through the reports of two small rushes having taken place, at the back of Nicholson's on the other side of the Greenstone river, and the other in the flat, opposite Murphy's. At the fiist named place the gold is said to be an unusually fine sample, and to have been found at the bottom of an abandoned shaft. Twelve pennyweights are reported to have been obtained from two loads of stuff. At the latter the prospects are said to be very satisfactory, but what they exactly are has not been mentioned. In Quinn's Terrace we hear of one party of six men washing fortnightly.about 30 ounces. On this side of the river the only noticeable item of ; jiews is the. putting down of more shafts on what is supposed to be the line from the Shamrock Lead towards Sandy Stewart's. We hear of prospects giving seven grains to two dishes, but believe the claim from which this was taken has not reached the' bottom. Elsewhere work is regularly proceeded with, and the results are up to the average. : A share in Adam Ross's claim on the flat at Dillman's, changed hauds lately for £235. The average washing from this claim is said to be lOto 15 pennyweights to the load. .
