[press AGENCY, j London, August 24. Latest Russian official despatches state that all attacks by the Turks at Shipka Pass were repulsed by the Russians, who maintained their position. They have been reinforced and fighting continues. The Turks suffered an enormous loss; the Russian loss was relatively slight. Many officers were killed. A Russian unofficial reports a victory at Selvi. A Turkish unofficial says Mehemet Ali achieved a brilliant victory at Eksie Djuma. AGENT-GENERAL’S TELEGRAMS 1 A great battle, lasting two days was fought at Shipka Pass in which the Turks were repulsed with great loss. The Turkish armies are not vet joined. Osman Pasha’s attack on Selvi has been repulsed. Rwstchnk has suffered ranch from continued bombardment. Three hundred cosaacks who had Jaid down their arms, were slaughtered in cold blood. The Russians are mobilising in great force. ° An important battle is expected. An insurrection has broken out in Crete, where many Turks have been killed. The alleged Russian atrocities are said to be chiefly fabrications of the Turks. The Stafford House subscriptions for wounded Turks were almost all embezzled by Turkish Officials, and the soldiers have been left without surgical aid. ** Bombay, August 25. The Assam arrived at Galle with mails on the 24th. Mehemet AIL repulsed fourteen batDjuma. ——. A Russian official despatch says “after desperate continuous fighting for thirteen hours at Shipka, on the 23 rd the Russians maintained their ground.” Sulieman Bey telegraphs on the 21st “ scaled Shipka heights, fought fourteen hours, retained conquered positions, unsuccessfully attacked the Russian entrenchments, but hope to succeed,”
