The Hospital Committee meet at the Brian Bom Hotel this evening at halfpast seven^ An explosion of fire damp took place at the Greymouth Coal Company’s shaft on Friday, and caused the death of a man named John Kerr. The names of candidates appear in an advertisement. The election takes place on Monday next. An accident happened to Captain Owen, of the St. Kilda, which was, •providentially, not a fatal one. Some of the hands were aloft sending down some of the gear when a block got loose, and in its fall to the deck, struck
the captain behind the ear, inflicting an ugly wound, which was dressed by Dr Morice. At the last sitting of the Totara Road Board, Mr Clarke, one of the. members moved “ That the clerk proceed to Hokitika to take legal advice re the charges made against himself and the Totara Road Board, and demand an investigation.”.
