Mr W. H. Berg has disposed of bis launch Matarua to Mr F. Atkins, who is now in charge of the ocMt. A quiet wedding was celebrated at Kawhia this (Friday) morning the contracting parties being Mr Gibson and Miss Maggie Coe, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Coe, of Te Bau-a-moa. Amongst the visitors at present in Kawhia are Mrs Aubin, of Pirongia (mother of Mr E. H. Aubin), ancl Mr Hunter, of Auckland (father of Mr Hunter, one of the proprietors ol the Kawhia Butter Factory).

Mr Stewart inspected the schools in the district during the week, finishing with the Kawhia School on Thursday. Mr Durham and Miss Blackett are to be complimented, as the inspector states that the examination was very successful, the work of the children being far better than upon forme.: occasions.

Great regret is felt throughout the district (says the Te Kuiti Chronicle) over the death of Mrs Vicary, of Otorobanga, which took place on the morning of November 2/sth. The de ceased lady had not been in the best of health for some li de time, but her death was unexpected and came as a shock to her friends. Mr Vicary and family (a member of which is one of Marokopa’s most respected settlers) haye the sympathy of a wide circle of friends.

As briefly announced in our last issue, about 80 residents assembled in Scott’s Hall, Kawhia, on Friday last to say farewell to Mr and Mrs A. L. Turrell, upon the eve of their departure to take up their residence at Te Rau a-mna. As usual the evening was devoted to dancing, the music boing supplied by Masdames Chase and Langley, Mr M'Carthy being M.C. Supper was handed round and a very sociable gathering concluded by the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne.” Between dances Mrs Ashford sang “ Rags and Tatters.” and Mtesw Tiri Morgan and Dorothy Bircombo the duet “ Two Little Orphans.”
