(Special to thr Settler ) » Wellington, Monday. On Thursday evening io diaciuisiug the Loans to Local Bodies Bill, Mr Jennings pointed out in strong terms the anomalous position that settlers occupied in Native townships in the King Country. They were debarred from obtaining leases unions certain conditions, which were perplexing and confusing, were complied with. They were now being nirrased by Public HeaEh Inspectors who required sanitary conditions, which were impossible ander ths existing condition of the governing local authorities in Maori townships. There must be a change, and that very soon. Residents iu tho King Country might as well be ir> Kamachstka, so far as getting any benofite conferred by legislation for people in other parts of the Dominion. Messrs Ngats, Ell and Massey took part iu the discussion bearing on King Country affairs. The Premier said he Was willing to accept any reasonable amendment that the member for Egmont would propoae. The Native Minister saw Mr Jennings after the debate and it is said he will be glad to meet a deputation from Te Kuiti, Otorohangn, Taumamnui and KawhiAover the matter»
