COUNTY COUNCIL OR GOV ERNMENT? WHICH?
(TO TUB EDITOB.) Sir,— At present there are incom ple ed attempts at roads, tbe survey of which seems to have been done by some person altogether incapable of judging tbe most sui<able place for a road. I speak in general of roads here, and in particular of a road from Oparau landing to the Oparau Ferry. Tais road has been taken over p-lints of spurs while there is a dead level road to be haa all the way. Tbe width shows meanness—it is a mean attempt at a road, but that is ail. I
want to know if when the Kiwbia County was called into being it took over ail tbe reads not main roads iu the incomplete mean way they were made by Givernm n ? Are we, the pioneers of this wd tern ess, to be c<ftnpelled to cootinue to put up with these apol >gya for roads ? Are we the slaves of this G ivernmsnt or are we free men who have votes ? Even n worm will turn wh j o hf* tail ie -mb ashed, and this tail of ibis Dominion is more than tired of tbe “will be considered when the estimates are being made" policy of the present Government. Wuere are tbe borrowed millions this Dominion is taxed directly or indirectly to pay the interest on? Where isthe boasted surplus ? Our Council has been waiting f »r months already, and soon will years, for a few paltry thousands to do work slummed by Government, and can’t get it.—Ydurs, etc., G. H- MACKENZIE.
