OIL INDICATIONS AROUND OPAKAU.

(to the editor.) Sib, —When I said there were indications of oil around Oparau the ignorant never-make a-rise people laughed Now, since the dry weather, indications of prononnoed crude oil are visible floating on springs, swamps, etc. These indications prove to one who understands the laws of nature below ground that there is one or more, (most probably more) springs, which if located and proved to be of the right sort would make Oparau a place of con* aider able importance. It is our duty as pioneers of this part to locate at least one good oil spring. “ It is not by saying “It is not here*’ that the place will be found ; it is here, but in what quantity and at what depth remains for some enterprising individual with knowledge and money, to find out. The land owners or occupiers will give every facility and take an interest in the future returns as a guarantee of good faith. We are not too flush ofcash, but wemight manage to get some outside capital to prospect with. Let those who know oil whan they see it try and find out when there is an indication good enough to teat.— Yours, etc., MINING ENGINEEEL
