HAUTURU MAIL SERVICE.
(to the editor.) Sib,—Re the present mail service to Hau* turu. It would be much more convenient to the settlers if the mail arrived on a Saturday, inete id of Wednesday as at present. We would then get our weekly papers, such as the Auckland Weekly, which is printed on a Wednesday, on tho following Saturday; with the present mcil service we do not get it until the following Wednesday—exactly a week old. Our local pai cr. the Kawhia Skitlkb, we would aluo get on the Saturday with the news up-to-date. With the present service many meetings, sales, etc., advertised in the local paper, and of interest to the settlers, are over before we in Awaroa know anything about it. Now I am on the subject I would also suggest that the Awaroa settlers petition tbe Chief Postmaster for a bi-weekly service. lam sure the number of letters, papers, parcels, etc,, wanaut such. 1 think it is about time Department sent the Hauturu office a set of pigeon holes as at present with about six holes for all the letters, prpers, parcels, etc,, the postmaster ie very liable to overlook uorrospoudence, which somotimoe means a very serious loss and iuconveuieuoe to the owner. The present” pigeon holes, postal room and telephone arrangements are fifty years behind the times, and the sooner a small detache 1 room ia bu lt which o.n be used for pest office and telephone, the better it will be for all conoernel, I trust (hi Awaroa settlers will take this matter up and agitate & petition until the work is done. If you do not ask you will never receive.— Yours, etc., AWAROA SETTLER, P,S—I would suggest that the Hautura P.M. applies himself for set pigeon hobs and P.O. block. I think from past experience the Department will tend ttea along.
