FOOTBALL. 01'ARAU r. AWABOA. On Saturday, July 6th, the Oparau team journeyed to Awaroa to play the return match. The visitors arrived six mon short, but picked up three substitutes. The game resulted in a win for Oparau by nine pointe to nil. Awaroa kicked off and after a few exchanges the ball went to the Awaroa full back who mulled, and Terry by fast following up picking up and scored a splendid try- Oparau 8, Awaroa 0. For the rest of the spell Oparau were defending all the time. In the second term the game underwent a change. The Oparau backs opened up the game and at onco became dangerous. From some loose play near Oparau lines Tiwa got the ball and after dodging and beating five or six men got through and scored between the posts. Oparau 6, Awarou 0, From a throw in near Awaroa lino Olive picked up aud scored near the goal pests. Oparau 9, Awaroa 0.
For the winners all the backs played well but perhaps M. Forbes played the best, while F, Terry, H. Schrieber and Cowern shone out amongst the forwards. For Awaroa Kerapo and another Maori grafted well in the forwards and Tapu was the best
The Oparau footballers have arranged to journey ;to Pirongia and play a match against the local players on Saturday next, the 20th inst.
