The Main Coach Road.
Those who travel on the main road between Te Rau a-moa and Kawbia will remember that soon after leaving the former place the road is in a terrible condition, through which the mail c">ach in particular finds it most difficult to wend its weary way on to wards its destination at Oparau Ferry. With a view of improving matters and securing a substantial grant from Parliament during the ensuing session for the metalling of thia portion of the road (about 2- miles) Messrs Wiley and Randall, two of the most energetic of the settlers of Te Riu-a-moa, recently forwarded a largely signed petition on tbe subject to Mr H. J. Greenslade, who at once promised to do his utmost to secure the necessary grant for metalling, especially as this would facilitate the carting of milk to the Te Rau-a-moa Butter Factory. In due course the importance of the matter was brought under the notice of the Minister for Public Works by Mr Greenslade, and as tbe result of tbe representations made the Hon. Hall-Jones now replies at some length, in the course of which he says :—“ The matter of making some provision for this work will receive the earnest consideration of the Government in. tbe framing of the current year’s Estimates. As, however, a Kawhia County Council is now in existence, I would suggest the advisability of that body raising a loan under the Loans to Local Bodies Act to assist in the completion of the metal ling of this road.”—-Waikato Times.
