Kawhia School Committee.

The usual monthly meeting of the above committee was held at the Settler Office on Tuesday evening stb, when there were present— Bev. R. Mitchell (in the chair), Messrs Turrell, Howes, E. Falwasser and Pettit (acting secretary). The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From Board of Education, Auckland, stating that the application for repairs to ground and fence had been referred to the architect (Mr Watts) who expected to visit the district shortly.—Received. From Same, stating that there was no objection to the removal of the old building near the teacher’s residence, as requested by the committee.—The acting secretary explained that he knew nothing of this matter, and thought that tho letter had been forwarded in error.—Mr Turrell did not remember this matter having been brought before the committee during the 12 months be had been a member. —lt was decided to refer the letter back to the Board for farther particulars. From Mr Durham, complaining that the sanitary contractor had neglected his work.—Received. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment R. Nesbitt 9s, Champtaloupand Cooper £1 19s lid, G. G. Jonathan Is 6d, T. Wallace ss. GENERAL. Mr Howes brought forward the question of the prizes offered for the school. He favoured leaving the head teacher free from having to award the prizes and instead to ask the inspector to decide.—The Chairman was deputed to confer with Mr Durham and arrange preliminary details. The Chairman and Mr Turrell were appointed to visit the school during the months of September and October. In a conversational manner the desirability of holding a school picnic was discussed.—lt was decided to hold a picnic before the end of the year, the date and other details to be fixed at a later meeting. The meeting then adjourned.
