Oparau Farmers’ Union.
(communicated.)
On Saturday, August 12th, a meeting of the Pirongia West, or Oparau, branch of tbe Farmers’ Union was held. Communications from the Colonial President on rural education, the Provincial Secretary on mutual fire insurance, etc., and the Provincial Organiser on the proposed formation of a Farmers’ Co-operative Association were read. A resolution was passed to the effect that the member for the district be requested to assist in urging the Government to take steps in the direction of giving to country children in New Zealand an education which will fit-lhem for their work in the country, and give them an intelligent interest their surroundings in tbe country, and thus keep them from migrating to the towns. Several new members have recently joined the local branch of the Union, but the number on tbe roll is still much smaller than it should be.
