The existing boundaries were fixed after much discussion and consideration, and the alteration since suggested could not be made without enquiry and without affording all the settlers interested an opportunity of representing their views as to the ex pediency of such proposed alterations. 41 Sir,—Your letter of February 22nd addressed to the Hon. Minister for Lands, enclosing one from Mr Walter Morgan, of Kawhia, on the subject of reserving some of the bush on the Kawhia rivers, has been forwarded to me. In reply, 1 may say that the Scenery Preservation Committee has already recommended one piece of .bush for reservation on the Rakaunui River (I think, but I have no notes here; it may be the Waiharakeke River), and would have done much more but for the absence of definite information. Our intention is that some of the Commission shall visit Kawhia as soon as we get through the South Island, which means that the visit will probably take place next summer, when some of us will call on Mr Morgan, to whom we feel obliged for calling attention to the matter.— Yoars, etc., I’brcv Smith, Chairman Scenic Preservation Committee.” “ Sir,— I have the honour to ac knowledge the receipt of your letter of the 81 it ult., relative to the stock resting reserve at Piripiri.
