Ka patai atu tetahi puruhi, ki tetahi okiha:—"He aha te take ou, he nui na hoki koe, he kaha, e rongo na koe ki nga mahi he a te tangata; e whakapononga na ia koe, i ia ra, i ia ra, i aura he mea nohinohi rawa nei, e kai kino nei i o ratou kikokiko, e inu nei i o ratou toto a hore e mutumutu?" Ka whakahokia atu e te okiha, " Kahore ahau e pai kia ngakau kino whakawhetai kore; no te mea e arohatia ana, e atawhaitia ana au e te tangata, a he mea ano kapakipakitia ka mirimiria toku matenga me oku pokohiwi." "Aue e, aue e." Eaikota te puruhi, " Ko te pakipaki e paingia na e koe, ko taku e wehi ai, ka pa mai ana ki au, mau tonu mai i te kai whakangaro i au, ko toku matenga ano tena e mate ai ahau.
