THE GAUDIN CASE.

SUPREME COURT APPEAL. Wellington, Thursday. Legal proceeedings have been instituted to secure the release of F. E. N. Gaudin, of Auckland, who was sentenced by a military tribunal in Samoa to five years' detention for various offences, including the conveyance of the correspondence of enemy subjects. The legalities will take the form of an application for a writ of habeas corpus, and the grounds for the application are that the military tribunal which imposed the penalty on Gaudin was not competent to sentence him in the manner it did. Various affidavits in support of the application have been filed.
