NOXIOUS WEEDS QUESTION.

BOROUGH COUNCIL REPORT

In response to circular, concerning noxious weeds, issued the President of the Board of Agriculture, the Te Ruiti Borough Council appointed a sub-committee to go into tha subject and report. In submitting tbe following report on Monday evening the Mayor said the report was really in the direction of affirming a principle. The tendency was to ignore the efforts to eradicate weeds, but anvone inspecting the Borough must acknowledge there was need for action. Many people had come irto possession of property on which weeds were established, and it would be years before they could be eradicated. Everyone should try to overcome the weed trouble as much as possible. Committee's Report Your committee baying carefully consictered this matter, beg to recommend to the Council that, -in view of the wide prevalence of noxious weeds of all descriptions both within the Borough and throughout the district, this Council recommends the Agricultural Department: That, while it will" be necessary in this district to exercise discretion and care in the enforcement of the Act so aB not to create too great a hardship on owners or occupiers of land who may have taken up land already over-run with weeds, that will take years to eradicate, strongly urge that the policy of tha Agricultural Department and local bodies should continue to be in the direction of the ultimata eradication of all noxioUß weeds, by a persistent effort on the part of all lrcal authorities towards and encouraging and assisting landowners whether private or otherwise to complete clearance of the noxious weeds prevalent throughout the district, and particularly blackberries, Californian thistle, pennyroyal, and briar, believing that this course is absolutely necessary in the interests of close settlement and successful and profitabla occupation of land. .
