THE TURKISH FRONTIER.
MASSACRE OF ARMENIANS. TURKISH GENERAL CAPTURED. Petrograd, Wednesday. The Turks have assembled about a hundred thousand troops, mainly officered by Germans, at Karaurgan, on the Russo-Asiatic Turkish frontier, checking the Russian advance on the threshold of the tDttoman territory. It i 3 officially Btated, that after severe fighting at Karaurgan, the Russians took 1500 prisoners, including 11 officers belonging to the 92nd Infantry, and destroyed a battalion of the 52nd. the remnant being taken prisoner. The Russians also captured a hill in Turkish territory, and seized a depot of artillery sheila and cart-
ridgss. The Turks and Kurds have reached Maragha, eastward of Lake Urumiah, in the Persian province of Azerbijar. The massacre of Armenians between Lakes Van arid Noza is reported. Many Christians in the Azerbijan and Alaskert Valley have died of hunger and cold, while 50,000 refugees have reached the Caucasus. Enver Pasha executed several officers for expressing disrespect to Germany. Turkish prisoners are brought to tears, and vehemently denounce the Germans for ruining Turkey. A report from Athens state that the* Sultan sent Nouri Bey, chief of the general staff of the Third Ottoman Army, to investigate the cause of the Turkish defeat at Sarykamisb. The Cossacks captured Nouri at Karsiurgan. A message from Amterdam states that Turkish headquarters deny the report of their defeat at Sarykamisb.
