FUNCTION AT MAIROA.

A MODERN MILKING PLANT.

INSTALLED AT BROOKDALE,

A very pleasant function took place at Brookdale, tna farm of Mr H. Ellison, on the Mairoa South road on Monday, when the water, powsr for the machine milking plant was turn ed on. The ceremony had been arranged for bo7i.ie tima and a number of representative Ta-Kuiti sresidenis, as well as neighbouring, sattlera were, invited. Unfortunately tha weather was bad in the early Morning, and it waa not until nearly noon that the Te Kuiti contingent of six motor car loads was able to . start. Tha journey was madts via the Arapae road and the party landed at Brookdale about two o'clock. The visitors to the number of about fifty Were hospitably entertained at luncheon at which various tossts were honoured. "Banking and Corameroial Interests" was proposed tv Mr .Hardy and re sponded to by Ms Baits: "Dairying and Agriculture" ives proyosnd by Mr Mackay and responded to by Mr D. Mackenzie. Mr Ellison in a short speech made appreciative reference to the work of Mr Bartlay, designer, and Mr J. Willis, builder and constructor of the plant and Mr Belcher, manage?. . Mr A. Scheles, County chairman, in formally declaring the plant open, referred to the work of the settlers in the district and pointed to tha fact that a little over three years ago the farm was nativeowned virgin land/ while to-day it wag in splendid pasture, growing not only two bladsa of grass where one grew before, but an infinite nunnber. The fact of such an installation as Mr Ellison put in was a tribute in itself to the enterprise of the district and manifested tha confidence- f«lt in the future of the King Country. Miss Vera Ellison was called upon to torn on th 3 power and the plant was declared open. The ceremony was brought 10 a close with the toast of the ladies coupled with thanks to Mrs Belcher for tha hospitality extended t) the visitors.
