THE BELGIAN FUND.

A representative meeting of citi.zens, presided over, by Mr R. M. Somervills, was held in the Municipal_Chatnbers last evening to consider matters in connection with the Floral .Fete in aid of the Belgian Fund. After considerabe .diversion of opinion upon the matter, it was resolved to postpone the Floral Fete until after the New Year, as a suitable day could not be fixed upon at present, and decided to arranga for tea and refreshments to be supplied in a marquee to be erected at the side of the Municipal Buildings on Election Day, all provisions required being supplied by ladies of the town and the whole proceeds will be handed to the Belgian Fund.

It was also arranged to have a street collection taken up on tb.B same day, and the "exemption badge" idea to be introduced.

An offer was received from Mrs Going, of Hamilton, to bring to Te Kuiti an amteur theatricnl company to stage the play entitled "Jane," the committee to Day all expenses of the company and the proceeds to go to the Belgian Fund. ,A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Going for her offer, with an expreß3ion of regret that it coul3 not be accepted owing to the heavy expenses entailed in staging same. A strong ladies' committee was formed for tha purpose of carrying out the refreshment day arrangements, Mrs A. F. Howarth being appointed supervisor.
