BEST SUMMER FOODS FOR FOWLS
Tha best meals for summer use are middlings, ground oals, and bran, while the best grains are wheat and oats. A capital raion for adult birds during the Rummer consists of two parts middlings, one part ground oats, and two part cooked turnips or steamed r lover chair. In tho afternoon wheat and oats should be provided in equal quantities
! Since fowls greatly prefer wheat to oats, however, owing probably to the fact that tha latter have b cli a bard husk, it often happens that the wheat is eaten and ths oats are left. To overcome this, wheat should bo fed one evening and onta the following. When the weather is warm the feeding of maize and barley is a mistake. One of tha effects of maize feeding is to coat the internal organs with a layer of greasy, oily fat, which ia obviously bound to aifecfc tho bird's health very greatly. It is frequently chsimed for maize that it slimulateß the laying powers of a bird, and this is true to a certain extent, but the good effects last only a very short time. For ten days, or perhaps a fortnight, it may increase the supply of eggs, but after a time tha number quickly diminishes. To a lesser degree the snme thing is true of barley meal, and both foods should be carefully provided during the summer months.
