THE PONTIFICIAL AIMS
Ths Pope has issued his first encyclical. He says: "The spectacle of blood and misery hag induced ma to harken to the last words of my predecessor, to beginmy ministry praying the princes and people to end this patricidal war. I pray God, my Pontificial voice of peace may resound through the entire world." Regarding the existing conditions between the Church and humanity, he declares it to he due to a luck of sincere mutual love amongst men and disrespect for authority. The injustice subsisting in the class relations hss a tendency to make material welfare the aim., of life. He will devote his entire Pontificiate to overcoming thi3 menace to society. He cuncludes with a protest against Italy depriving ItHly of its political liberty.
