GERMAN FLEET ACTIVE.
RUSSIAN PORT BOMBARDED. Petrograd, Wednesdny.
It is officially stated that two German cruisers and ten torpodo boats bombarded the Russian port of Libau, causing several fires. (Libau is a Russian seaport in the Baltic, 3CO miles north of the Gorman port or Danzig. It possesses lurge factories for colour*, explosives, machinery bolts, sails and ropes, tobacco, furniture, and mitchcs. North of tho commercial harbour and enclosing it the Runsian Government between 1893 and 1 ( .)0(> mado a very extensive fortifiod naval port protected by miles and breakers.) Copenhagen, Thursday. A heavy cannonading lasting for an hour was heard off Gothland, a Hbltic Sea island owned by Sweden and lying to tha ncrth west of Libau.
The bombardment of Libau damaged several factories, th'e railway sta'.i <n and the poorer part of the town. A petroleum reservoir was destroytd.
A cruiser sank several small steamers across the harbour entrance.
