FIGHT ON GERMAN RIGHT.
FRENCH CARRY TRENCHES. FIERCE BAYONET CHARGE. London, Wednesday. After terrific lighting between Peronne, 80 miles north-east of Paris, and Saint Quentin,lo miles north-west of Peronne, the German right appears to he turned. The Germans occupied Peronne on September 16th, holding a strong position with hills behind and marshes in front. The French Were ordered to take the possition at all coats. They combed the German trenches with artillery, but the Germans stubbornly held their position, the guns on the heights causing severe execution among the French. The latter stormed the position, and, advancing in several narrow columns, bayoneted the Germans in the trenches and gained the position, the Germans falling back to Saint Quentin. French reinforcements arrived and pursued the Germans to the suburbs where savage street fighting occurred. The Germans were driven back until they were ordered to abandon the town. The enemy are now making an effort to retake Saint Quentin.
