ADJUSTING COUNTY BOUNDARIES

MAROKOPA DISTRICT. AWASINO COUNTY'S ACTION By Telegraph —Own Corresp3ndent Moeatoa, Thursday Matters in connection with the adjustment of county boundaries wern advanced a furlhe* stage at a meeting cf the Awakino County Council on Saturday last, when the request of settlers of the Marokopa distjet to merge into Kawhia was considered. This step was opposed by a large number of ratepayers on the grounds that it would be injurious to the Awakino County, and would'interfere with the proper control! of the roads between the coast and railway. For instance, if the settlers' petition waß granted the main road from Marokupa to Te Kuiti would be under the contol of three counties. This fact .'hose in opposition held decidedly inimical to tne district's progress. The matters called for considerable discussion, and it was finally resolved that the counties of Kawhia and. Waitomo be EBked to co-operate in going into the whole question of adjustment of boundaries, and set up a commission. This decision is welcomed in :"this district, and it id felt settlers will have little difficulty in establishing a coast to railway interest once and for all, besides it being a decidedly good ?tep for the advancement and progress of the coastal ports.
