RAILWAY SIDING WANTED.
TO SERVE RANGITOTO SETTLERS The opening up for settlement cf the Rangitoto block between Te Kuiti and Otorohanga has led to a great amount of progress in the district mentioned. In view of tho manner in which the roading of the block has been carried out the necessity for the establishing of a railway Biding a short distance North of Hangatiki has been realised by tho settlers for some time. On the occasion of tho visit of the Minister of Railways to Te Kuiti the matter was brought before hia notice by Mr A. Scholee, County chairman, on behalf of the settlere. The application was not entertained and the settlers are again moving in the matter. At Monduy evening's meeting, Messrs McKue and Cook approached tho Council with respect to a railway siding Mangamutu. Mr Mcßae said they were going to Wellington to osk that a Hiding should ba put in and understood that tho Council was prepared to help the guttlers in respect to the matter. The chairman said be was quite conversant with tho position and personally had done his best to induce tho Department to put in tho aiding. It would pay tho Council to asßist towards tho siding, arid if tho settlors provided £SO out of their loan and tho Council provided another £SO he thought the Department would provide tho siding. It \v<;s arranged thnt the chairman should accompany the deputation to Wellington to wait on tho Minister.
