COUNTY RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION.

DEPUTATION TO COUNCIL The County Ratepayers' Association, represented by Messrs Jackson, Hargreaves, and Webber brought before the County Council on Monday evening the desirability of amending the County by-laws with respect to traffic. Mr HargrKavea said ho thought it wouli be advisable to regulate the load par waggon by the width of tyre. The chairman: That would mean you would require to weigh every load. Mr Hargreavas said the back country loads wi'.rc made up of a few staple articles and loads could easily be assessed. He would suggest that weigh-hridges should bo put in at the chief centres such as T« Kuiti and Otorohanga. Ho abo suggested the County by-laws ohould be amended to conform with the Government bylaws. The chairman said ho thought the Government traffic by-laws had bom copied by the County. Continuing, Mr Hargreavca referred to tirnoer loads, and suggestod an even quantity should be adopted for all kinds of timber. He also suggested the by-law should be rune; ded to prevent equestrians riding in tho water tanles. In respect to motor cars ho suggested in licensing cars that a lower fee should bo charged for lowpower cars than for high power. The chairman naid the Council was pleased to hear the suggestions. They had to remember that the Council h»d to make by-lavva for u very wide area in different sta-ea of development. As to the questioon of motor cars it was agitating every County in the country. The Government was taking the matter in hand. Mr Jackson said the Association had passed a resolution asking tho Council to raise suffiicient ratcn to keep at least one permanent man in each riding to attend to maintenance. He urged that this should be dune. The chaitman pointed out the matter was referred to specially in his annual'report, and the suggestion would be entertained by tno Council
