FAREWELL. TO MR AND MRS VOYCE-

A very enjoyable evening was spent hare on Thursday, July, 9th, when a very representative gathering of ■ settlers from this and adjacent districts assembled at the residence of M,r and Mrs Voyce, senr , tu bid farewell totbßt couple on the eve of their departure from the district. Mr and Mrs Voyce, who are pioneer, settlers of the district, have recently disposed of their property to Mr E. Larsen, also of this district, and intend shortly to return to their old home in Temuka. South Canterbury. Since taking up residence here Mr and Mrs Voyce have made a wide circle of friends and carry with them the esteem and best wishes of all with whom they have come in contact. During the evening, Mr W. A. Thorns, in au appropriate and happy speech, presented Mrs Voyce with a very nice travelling rug and a couple of pretty cushjons, and Mr Voyce with a very, handsome little travelling clock/Mr Thorns took advantage of the opportunity to refer to the high esteem in which the .recipients were held, and although regretting the loss wh.ich their departure meant to the district, congratulated them on their retirement from farming pursuits, j and expressed the hope that they would live long to enjoy the pleasures of their well-earned rest. Mr Voyce very suitably responded, and thanked the assembly for their valuable presents and expressions of goodwill. He assured all those present that he and Mrs Voyce would always look back with pleasant recollections to the years thev had spent in Mairoa, and expressed the hope that the district would continue to prosper and good-fellowship continue to exist among the settlers. A very enjoyable supper waß dispensed by the ladies of the district and dancing and other forms of amusement helped to. pass away a very pleasant evening. Excellent dance music was very kindly supplied by Messrs A. Andresen, J. Richardson, and E. Larsen.
