ELECTRIC LIGHT INSTALLATION.
YEARS' WORKING ACCOUNT An interesting document produced at the last meeting of tho Te Kuiti Eorough Council was that which contained the estimates for the fin-, ancial year now current. With the first quarter ended there is good ground for framing the estimated receipts which are set at £3OO par quarter, making £I2OO for tho year. The estimated expenditure ia set at £1354, leaving an estimated deficiency of £154, which will require to b\ met by the ratepayers. Salaries and wages total £6OO, and working material is set at £270. Under the heading of sundries comes office expenses, insurance, printing and stationary, bank interest and charges to an amount of £lB5, while the amount sat apart for house ssrvices.and repairs to connejtions and street lights ia £125. The estimated deficiency on the year's working is mora than counter-balanc-ed by tha amount incurred for repairs to plant and power house, which have just been effected at a cost of £174 It will therefore be recognised that, with the plant in good working order without the necessity fur repairs the account would show a slight credit balance on the present number of connections supplied by the installation. The necessity for enlarging the plant in order to place the department on a sound business basis has been realised by the Council, and at°last meeting it was decided to engage Mr F. Black, of Wellington, as consulting enginear to paparre estimates and report on the best means to adopt: When this has b«Bn done a proposal for a further loan will be placed before the ratepayers. Applications for power to a considerable extent have been placed before the Council and further house services are being steadily connected. .Until the consulting engineer's estimates and report concerning the proposed extensions have been received it is impossible to form a definite opinion as to whether the anticipated increase in revenue will immediately meet the incrsasad interest and sinking fund on the capital necessary to carry out the extensions. In view of the report of the Borough electrical engineer the extensions are urgently required and there is good reason to anticipate that the proposed increase will result in placing the department in a sound position.
