IMPORTANT METALLING SCHEME.
THE MANGAOTAKI^LOAN An important work which is projected by the settlers at Mangaotaki was 1 discussed at the meeting held at Pio Pio Saturday last. The project includes the metalling of over twenty miles of road which includes the road from Pio Pio via Mangaotaki to Waitanguru and also portion of the Kjritehere road. The proposal involves Waitomo and Awakino counties arid a plan of' the proposed- area has been prepared by Mr E. R. Gould, engineer to the Waitomo Countv Council The approximate cost of the work is from £1.6,000 to £IB,OOO and an application is being made for a Government subsidy of £ for £. In consequence of two counties, being involved two separate rating areas have to be defined and the separate amounts necessary for the wo*k raised by the respective counties. The plan of the area within the Waitomo County was submitted and t discussed, several mfnor alterations being made. It is intended that the project shall be pußhed ahead with a view to having the work commenced 'at as early a date as passible. An important feature in connection with the proposal is that the settlers outback will have propar, access over a metalled road to.the Waitangaru dairy factory, and the road will also be another artery leading from the coast to the railway and serving a fine stretch of good country throughout.
