TE KUITI WATER SUPPLY.
THE DAM CONTRACT. COMPLETION OF WORK. The contract for the erection of the impounding dam for tho town water supply has now been completed by Mr Spencer, and the final report of the clerk of works was considered by the Council on Thursday evening last. The report dealt chiefly with the necessity of clearing the surface of the reservoir aite>nd the necessity of clearing the same before water is impounded. A considerable area of the surface is covered with thick vegetable growth which will decay when covered with wnt9r and become a source of pollution. The clerk of works, Mr Johnson, recommended that the surface be stripped to a depth of four inches. By doing this all the roots and surface soil would be removed, thus leaving a harmleia surface over which the water could be impounded. It was decided that the councillors pay a visit to the site this afternoon, when, no doubt, a definite decision on the matter will bo arrived at.
