NECESSITY FOR EXTENSION
ENGINEER'S REPORT ADOPTED
The Bpecial report submitted to the last meeting of the Borough Council by Mr R. H. Bartley, electrical engineer, dealing with the necessity of duplicating tne present plant and the extension of the mains was referred to the Electric Light Committee and a special meeting of the Council was held on Thursday evenirg to receive the committee's report and recommsnation, which was as follows: "That they are of opinion that Mr Bartley's scheme and report, dated May 4th, 1914, should be adopted and put into operation at the earliest possible date and further that a report from an outside electrical engineer be obtained with a view to satisfying the Council and the ratepayyers that Mr Bartley's recomendations are feasible and necessary." The report was discussed by the Council in committee in detail, and on the motion of Crs Mostyn Jones and Somerville it was decided to obtain the services of Mr Wylie, electrical engineer to the Auckland City Council, to report on the matter. A motion proposed by Cra Ilowartb and Mostyn Jones that at the same time a report be obtained from Mr Bartley and the consulting engineer upon a scheme to obtain power from the Mokau Falls was defeated, the voting being: —For, Cra Howarth, Mostyn Jones. Elliott, and Mabbett; against, the Mayor, Crs James, M. J. Jones, Martin, and Somerville.
