REGULATIONS ISSUED. KING COUNTRY APPLICATIONS. When a Crown tenant takes up lnnri he is supposed to be provided with reasonaba access, the premised road is sometimes a long while matarialising. To meet this grievance the Mnister for Lands inserted in last session's Land Laws Amendment Act a section authorising the expenditure of land revenue in special districts upon the construction of the roads. Whsre Crown tenants can mako a gooi case for it they may with the concurrence of th« Minister form a committee and constitute their holdings into a special district. Then for a term not exceeding ir> years the revenues from their lands will be placed to the credit of what might be termed their local public works fund. Roads and bridges may be constructed in the area, or outßide it if the work will dircatly benofit the settlers. Regulations under which the section will operate have just been published. They give the Minister of Lands power to call meetings of settlers, and name the chairman, who will be requirsd to report the proceedings to the Minister A committee of settlers not exceeding five in number must be set up to direct the expenditure An officer of the Puhlic Service will preside over their deliberations, but will not be empowered to vote. The provisions of the new Act are being utilised by some of the settlements in King Country. At the last meeting of the Taranaki Land Hoard an appletion was received from the Ohura County Council to have portion of the Arh block declared a epscial road district. The 'l'angitu settlers have also taken steps to have their settlement brought under tho provisions of the new Act.
