AN ASYLUM FIRE.

PATIENTS SAFELY REMOVED. Cbristchurcb, Thursday. An outbreak of fire in the women's ward of Sunnyside Asylum was discovered at 9 50 a.m. to-day, a patient's scream attracting Dr GoW, who gave the alarm. All the patients were removed without a hitch, but their effects were destroyed. At midday, the fire was confined to the women's ward, and was extinguished soon after noon, leaving the whole wing gutted. It is believed that *he cause of the fire was a spark entering a ventilator. The same portion of the building was burned 25 years ago.
