PIO PIO.
RaTEPYAER'S committee. Own Correspondent. A meeting of the ratepayers of the surrounding districts was held at Pio Fio on the 15th inst., to decide what attitnae should be taken up to the Waitomo County Ratepayers' Association. The chairman (Mr Jackson) having briefly explained the purpose of the association, after a Bhort discussion it was decided that the ratepayers of the district should ally themselves with that association and that a local branch should be estab lished. This motion was moved by Mr Livingstone and seconded bv Mr Burrows. Various opinions were put forth as to the manner of electing a delegate to send to the association meeting, but on the motion of Messrs Johnson and Power, it was decided that the meeting should elect its own delegate and also a local executive, not as some proposed to elect a cornmi ttes and leave to them the choosing of the delegate. It was proposed by" Messrs Burows and M. McKenzie that Mr Livingstone be delegate for the district. Several other persons wore proposed but declined, and Mr Livingstone was unanimously returned as delegate. Messrs Burrows an! Andrews proposed that the executive committee consist of the following gentlemen for the Paemako riding ;—Messrs Power, M. McKenzie, Burrows, Hobson, Mortison and Livingstone, and that of that number three should be a quorum.—Carried It was resolved on the motion of Messrs Power and J. Johnson that in the event of any member of the committee declining to act or absenting himself from three consecutive meetings the committee be empowered to appoint another to act in his place. On the motion of Messrs Livingstone and Burrows Mr Laughton was appointed secretary and treasurer to the committee. The secretary would remind all ratepayers uf the district that the delegate and the executive are going to work strenuously to their best interests, and therefore that it is only a "square deal" that every ratepayer turn up with the 5s fee of membership. CRICKET MATCH. The cricket match, Pio Pio v. Mangantaki, played here on Saturday last, resulted in a win for the latter after a rather close finish. Pio Pio batted first and made 88, the principle scorers being Nicholls 36 and W. Dank* 20. Thiswa?a very fine partnership, neither players giving a chance. For Mangaotaki, R. Meal ahowed good form, making 58 of tha total of 105, the visitors thus wining by 17 runs. The ladies kindly provided afternoon tea, and the afternoon proved most enjoyable, even to those who, like myself, secured an Enster egg.
