KAEAEA.
BASKET SOCIAL. Own Correspondent. A very enjoyable entertainment in the form of a basket social took place at Kaeaea on the evening of the 12th inst. The function, which was promoted in aid of the hall fund, proved a thorough success, both from a social and financial standpoint. The takings at the door and the proceeds from the sale of baskets amounted to £5 16s, which sum will be greatly appreciated by tha hall committee. Mr Fred. Nortcotte, in his jovial manner, efficiently discharged the duties of M.C., w.iile Messrs F. and E Budd contributed the mußic to the satisfaction of all. Mr T. Manning, of Waitewhenua, wielded the hammer at the disposal of the baskets, and conducted the sale in a manner quite befitting a more experienced auctioneer. During the evening Mrs C. J Riddle and Mr Barnett contributed vocal items to the programme which were highly appreciated, while Mr P. A. Riddle's humorous recitations were pro?ocative of roof-rais-ing merriment. Altogether the function was voted a sound success by all who availed themselves of the enjoy ment the occasion afforded
