EIGHT MILLIONS SQUANDERED. CONTRACTORS' HUGE PROFITS. Received Friday, 10.45 p.m. By Telegraph—Press Association.—Oopyris&t Ottawa, Friday. The report of the commissioners appointed to inquire into the cost of the trana-continental railway, states that the commission which had charge of the construction exercised no economy. Eight millions sterling was needlessly squandered, and the original estimate was exceeded five fold. Many large contracting firms gained huge protfis, by sub-letting contracts and doing nothing whatever themsevles. Parliamentary action is anticipated as a result of the report.
