NATIVE LAND SETTLEMENT.
OPERATIONS OF BOARD. The Waikato-Maniapoto Maori Land Board'has just concluded the 1 aft sitting for the year at Te Kuiti, and with the coming into operation of the new Native Land Act next year thconstitution of (ha Beard will be altered to meet the provisions of the new legislation. It is probable that
another meeting of the Board will be held prior to the alteration taking effect, but the bulk of the work under the old conditions has been accomplished. The returns showing the operation of the Board to date are not yet available, but that report furnished to Parliament last session by the Under - Secretary for Native Affairs shows that for the twelve months prior to March 31st last the amount of land dealt with by lease by the Board was 77.865 acres, and by sale 87,362 ncres. The total amount of native freehold leased by the owners, and approved by the Board up to March 31st. 1912. was 059,494 acres, to which has io be be added a further amount of 41,252 acres for the year ending March 31st, 1013, making a total of 700,747 acres divided among L'uu applicants. The total amount sold to March 31st, 1912. was 90.308 and with an additional amount of 46,592 acres disposed of during the year the total area sold aggregate? 143,201 a-jres. The total area of vested land administered by the Board up to March 31st, 1013, was 202,317 acres of which 30,217 was disposed of by way of lease and 21,870 acres by way of sale. The total turnover of the Board for the year amounted to £110,420 Os 4d. the amount received by way of i>es, rents, and purchase money being £547,07 10s scl.
