APPRECIATION OF SERVICES.

PRESENTATION TO MR HOFFMAN. At |, the conclusion of the innual meeting of the Waitomo County Council on Wednesday a very pleasant function was held when Mr W. J. Hoffman was presented by the councillors with a handsome gold medal as a memento of his association with the council. The chairman, Mr A. Scholes, in making the presentation, made reference to the fact that Mr Hoffman was one of those responsible for the creation of the county. He had been councillor for Te Reuamoa riding since the council wa? set up, and had given good and loyal service to the ratepayers for a period of eight years. He wished Mr Hoffman every success and trusted he would cherißh the gift as a token of appreciaion from those with whom he had been associated in public work. The other councillors Bpoke in a similar Btrain and referred to the good feeling which at all times existed be] tween Mr Hoffamn and his fellow councillors. Mr Hoffman, in returning thanks to thoße present apologised for hiß unavoidable absence at last meeting, when the presentation was to have taker, place. He left the council with a great deal of regret, but he had given his services to the district for eight years, and private business demanded his attention.
